New Year's Resolution "Hacks"

Here are some tips and tricks on how to approach making goals for yourself not just for New Year’s, but throughout the year. If you have specific goals for your health and wellness, be sure to let your provider know so we can help you get those results! · Be Very Specific. For example, “Weight loss” is too vague. A 5% decrease in body fat is much more likely to be achieved. · Make it Measurable and Measure the Relevant Data. For the example of weight loss, the number on the scale is NOT the best measurement of success. The way your clothes fit, your insulin levels, and DEXA scans are a much more accurate and actionable barometer of progress. · Make Them Achievable. You can make your resolutions as big as you would like, but break the big goal into a series of “baby steps.” Set your plan up to essentially guarantee you’ll be successful so that you can build on your own momentum. Keep logs of the progress you are making because you’ll forget where you started. · Make them Relevant. It needs to matter to YOU on a very visceral and emotional level. For example, “I want to lose 20 lbs of body fat SO THAT I can take my grandkids to Disneyland every year without wanting to sleep for a week afterward!” When you make a resolution out of remorse or other people’s expectations of you, motivation will typically wane. · Set a deadline. Similar to keeping your resolutions achievable, the timeline in moving toward your goal should be realistic, too. When working with BHRT, the average time to see significant results in labs and body composition is 12-24 months. Give yourself the time, celebrate the baby steps, and enjoy the journey!
